2 ways people express living their own truth:
Relative truth = Yours is true for you…mine is true for me.
Personal truth = I create truth to the exclusion of your truth.
*2 Timothy 4:2-4 - 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. Who is the source for what I believe to be true?
MAIN IDEA:
Jesus did NOT say live your truth. He said HE IS the truth.
It’s less about finding OUR way and more about finding HIS way.

Jesus is truth and He does not change.

John 14:1 [Jesus talking about leaving to the Father] 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. NIV*
*Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. NIV *
2.God’s word is truth and points us to Christ.
**John 17:17 - Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. ESV
Psalm 119:9-11 – 9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. NIV
2 Tim. 3:15-17 - 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. NIV

3.The truth of who Jesus is changes us. We don’t change Him.
Galatians 2:20a - I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. ESV **
**Romans 12:2a - Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind NIV **
*2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. ESV *
MAIN IDEA:
Jesus did NOT say live your truth. He said HE IS the truth.
It’s less about finding OUR way and more about finding HIS way.

How do you know if you are living in HIS truth or in YOUR truth?

*The truth Jesus wants us to walk in is not really that hard to know… *
*What is hard is dying to ourselves and our sinful nature *
*Ours is subjective…His is based on timeless truth.
Ours is based on feelings…His is based on the Father
Ours can change…His cannot.
Ours leads to bondage…His leads to freedom.
Ours makes us our own god…His keeps the Father as God.
Our truth is complicated…His truth is simple. *
CHALLENGE QUESTION:
Jesus did NOT say live your truth. He said HE is the truth.
