DQ: Serenity - Pt. 7
February 23, 2020

INTRODUCTION: What was the happiest day of your life? OR What is the happiest memory that you have?

READ: Matthew 17:5, Matthew 5:3-12, Psalm 68:3, Hebrews 12:2, Matthew 25:14-21
Final part of the Serenity Prayer…

Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with You forever in the next. AMEN

DISCUSS
1. Read Matthew 3:17, Psalm 51:16-17, Psalm 147:11, Psalm 149:4, Jeremiah 9:23-24, Micah 7:18. In what and whom does God delight? How can you find delight in the same or similar ways?
2. Jesus took this sinful world as it is. How would you describe our sinful world? Practically speaking, how do you act and respond that shows that you are “taking this world as it is?”
3. How do you feel about the saying, “God loves you and there is nothing you can do about it?” Pastor Robert likened this to buying a used car “As Is.” Describe yourself “As Is.”
4. While God accepts us “As Is,” He doesn’t leave us that way. By referring to the prayer, how does He “make all things right?” Give an example of how you have seen this play out in your life.
5. Pastor Robert said, “Pursuit of happiness at all costs make unreasonable demands on those around us.” Share about a time you experienced or witnessed unrealistic demands or expectations because someone was expecting to be more than “reasonably happy.” How did those demands or expectations impact the person on whom they were placed?
6. How do the requests in the Serenity Prayer for serenity, courage, wisdom, acceptance of hardship, trust, and surrender affect reasonable happiness?
7. Which part of the Serenity Prayer is the hardest for you to pray?
