* What is your earliest Church memory?

Into the Bible Questions:
* What’s something from this week’s teaching that you learned, that stood out, interesting
etc?

* Recite together, or read through the Apostles Creed (at the bottom of the Study Guide).

* Today’s focus 1: I believe in…The Holy catholic Church…
* What have been your thoughts and/or understandings about this phrase?

* The word “catholic” means one/united/together not the Roman Catholic Church and faith
* What say you? What do you believe to be the purpose of a local Church?

READ: Matthew 16:17-18
* The word ekklēsia (ek-klay-see'-ah) is the word used for Church. It means a gathering of
people or an assembly. It is used in many different places in the bible, not just regarding
what we know as “Church”.
* What do you think the difference between a gathering like we do on Sunday morning,
versus any other type of gathering? Purpose, use, meaning, ideas etc?

* Pastor Kirby gave 3 purposes of the Church
o Worship and Glorify God
o Create a community
o Do the work of God
* Anything you would add or remove from this? Why?

* Jesus talks about the purpose of the Church

READ: Matthew 25:34-40
* Today’s focus 2: I believe in…The communion of saints
* What have been your thoughts and/or understandings about this phrase?

* Our definition for “communion of saints” says “The Communion of Saints is the whole
community of faithful followers of Christ; living and dead; past, present and future.”
* What does this definition make you think, wonder, consider, push back, celebrate etc?

READ: Hebrews 12:1-2
* Talk about a time in which you had others “cheering you on”. What was your response?

Application:
* Read again or recall the parable from Matthew 25 – what is something your group, or you
as an individual can do to be the Church similar to this?

* On the YouVersion Bible App search “Apostles Creed” in the “plans” tab. Choose the first
plan “Real Hope”. Start the plan and do it together as a group. It’s easy, just click “start”
and you will see.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
