God wants to GUIDE YOU safely through the dangerous uncharted waters of LIFE

When your sails don’t catch the wind of the HOLY SPIRIT life is EXHAUSTING

Set the SAILS of your life to catch the WIND of God’s Spirit so you can experience His momentum and direction in your life.

John 3:8 — “Only God’s Spirit gives new life. The Spirit is like the wind that blows wherever it wants to. You can hear the wind, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going.” (CEV)

John 16:13 — “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.” (NLT)

HOW DO YOU SET YOUR SAILS TO CATCH THE WIND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

{note
Acts 27:8-15, 18-25 (NLT)

1. When we live our lives based on what the so-called EXPERTS say, rather than what GOD’S WORD says, we get way off-track. (vv. 8-11)

If you just set your sails to catch the wind of past experience, you may miss out on the fresh wind and the new work that God wants to bring into your life now.

2. When SECURITY becomes your number one goal, you feel really INSECURE because you end up placing your trust in things that bring about the most insecurity. (v. 12)

MONEY

THINGS

PEOPLE

A. Whenever you place your faith in things that can CHANGE or be TAKEN AWAY, you’ll always feel insecure.

B. The most secure place you’ll ever be is in the center of God’s will. The most dangerous place you’ll ever be is outside of God’s will.

3. Delay will not DESTROY God’s PURPOSE for your life. Delays are part of God’s PLAN for our lives. (vv. 13-14)

Isaiah 30:18 — Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God. All who wait patiently for him are happy. (CSB)

4. If you’re not ANCHORED to God, you’re going to start to SINK (v. 14)

5. When you try to be the CAPTAIN of your own ship, it ends in DISASTER.You have to give up CONTROL to God. (v. 15)

THE PROCESS OF GIVING UP CONTROL TO GOD:

1. Give up trying to control your CIRCUMSTANCES

2. Give up on the STUFF you are trusting in. (vv. 18-19)

• Storms have a tendency to CLARIFY our PRIORITIES and show us what’s IMPORTANT.

3. Give up FALSE hope. (vv. 20-21)

WE NEED THREE ANCHORS: (vv. 22-25)

1. The anchor of God’s PROMISES.

2. The anchor of PRAYER.

3. The anchor of God’s PEOPLE.

The Christian life is not just a matter of BELIEVING it’s a matter of BELONGING
