The God Who Reveals

Lessons about God, and His amazing revelation to men

Introduction: Priming the pump for tonight’s discussion.

This week we looked at four amazing Psalms. Each one taught us something special about God. For example, God hears us when we pray; He is our strength, shield, and fortress; He reveals Himself through general and special revelation, and He blesses those who trust in Him. What was the one thing from our study this week that spoke to you that you would like to share with the group?

Exploration: Questions to guide our group discussion.

  1. When we walk with the Lord, we can rest in confidence that God hears our prayers, that our prayers are not hindered, and that we will confidently see the Lord in Glory. David knew this, and so he guarded his holiness. One goal of the Christian life is to be holy over time…consistently, and not just for a moment here and there. His walk of faith was what led David to such a confidence in his fellowship with God. What observations can we make about living with consistency as it relates to our fellowship with God?

  2. We mentioned from Psalm 18 that although very manly and tough, David was comfortable expressing his love for God through poems, songs, and psalms. We’ve seen pictures of David’s worship in the Bible and he was lit! How does David’s poetic side challenge the idea that manly men don’t sing, express emotion, or talk about loving God? What can we learn about Biblical manhood versus the world’s view of what makes a man manly?

  3. In Psalm 19 we learned that God has revealed Himself through general revelation and special revelation. Let’s talk again about these principles and define them in our group…what’s the difference? How have these two kinds of revelation impacted your decision to be a Christ follower?

  4. Finally, in Psalm 20 we learned how important it is to keep our trust firmly fixed in God. Sometimes men lean too heavily upon their own strength, but David reminded us that no matter how strong we may think we are, that our true strength lies in the person and blessings of God. It is doubtful that any of us owns a chariot, but we probably do have a bank account, a home, investments, and other tangible things that give us a sense of security. How might God speak to our hearts about trusting Him in light of these modern day chariots and horses?

Application: How can I apply this to my life this week?

  1. This section of the Psalms was an extremely encouraging one. What one or two principles from our discussion would God have you to make your own…to internalize as an encouragement this week? Can you share with the group?

  2. What areas of your thinking do you think God was challenging this week as we read these Psalms? Was there a specific message in them for you as you live out your faith this week?
