Jesus is not merely or even primarily a great example or teacher. First and foremost, Jesus came to be our Savior. That’s what his name means, and that is what we see in the three scenes of our passage today. Adam, the first head of the human race, fell into sin, and all of humanity fell with him. In Jesus, God is re-heading the human race. Adam failed, but Jesus succeeds. The Son of God became the Son of man to give God’s life to a dead humanity.
