Compared to Jesus’ words in John 14, the spirit of wisdom and revelation that Paul prayed for believers to receive, does NOT refer to the
of the Holy Spirit.
Instead, Paul’s prayer for believers could easily be seen as having an
or the frame of mind, like that of the Holy Spirit.
Study shows that the NIV and ESV capitalize the word Spirit in Eph 1:17, (which always identifies
), while other translations translate it as “a spirit,” and the NLT and KJV simply have it as “spiritual wisdom and insight.”
Some say that the “
” that Paul asked God to give to believers is a “better understanding of the ‘doctrines’ of God,” while the word “
” addresses a ‘clearer picture’ of God’s divine character and will.
John 16:8 says that when the Holy Spirit is come, He will
the unsaved regarding their lifestyle, and He will
the saved of their right standing with God!
I am convinced that many believers are led more by their
than the factual truth of God’s Word.
Today, the Holy Spirit wants to “cross-examine” your heart to help you to grasp the idea of having already
a GOD-GIVEN righteousness.
When we become totally
of our righteousness with God through faith in Jesus, we will discover that our view of things will change, our feelings about ourselves will change, and even our prayers will change.
It is normal for our
to gravitate towards things of the flesh, and it will continue to do so until the Holy Spirit convinces us of God’s love, righteousness, and provisions.
One man said, “if the desires of the flesh are not mortified (put to death), people will
its negative leanings all the way to the grave!”
The problem is, negative sinful thoughts have been part of the nature of fallen man ever since he was created, and it will
to be so until the Holy Spirit convinces us of God’s righteousness after our new birth in Him.
The only thing that dispels negative thinking is revelation of truth through the cross-examining of the Holy Spirit, and until people receive such revelation, their
will cause them to always say: “I don’t believe; I’m not worthy; I’m just a loser; I’m to be pitied; I’m just unholy and unable to do anything about it!”
Let’s say it like this: We are the product of God’s handiwork, and our “new self” has been created under the
and
of His divine power!
The convicting of a sinner’s sins, and the convincing of a believer that he is holy and righteous,
require the supernatural working of the Holy Spirit.
