Genesis 22:2 NLT
“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
Accepting the idea that God would test you with evil speaks of a dysfunctional relationship.
- “God takes away what is most precious to me to keep me humble.”
- “God is testing me with sickness to teach me something.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
The devil uses the same playbook for everyone. Every sin starts with this same lie: God is holding out on you, and you can’t trust Him.
Conclusion: God tempts no man with evil. Every trial and every test is an opportunity to activate our belief system. We grow in character and trust, knowing God is with us.
Genesis 22:5 NLT
“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
Abraham and Isaac start their journey to the place of sacrifice with a word of faith, “we will come right back.” A spoken expectation by Abraham based on covenant.
Genesis 22:7-8 NLT
7 Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
8 “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.
Genesis 22:12 NLT
“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”
Psalm 139:4 ESV
Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
Hebrews 4:13 NLT
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
Abraham understood and trusted in the covenant. Isaac is the child of that covenant, and that is enough.
Genesis 22:13-14 NLT
13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Hebrews 11:17-19 NKJV
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,”
19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
TIFAW
Because I am in covenant with God, a proper sacrifice involves worship, complete surrender, and faith and trust in God.
I know He will provide because His divine assurance of good guides my life.
I conclude that God will take care of me.
