Journey Thought the Old Testament- Discussion Questions- Part 3
November 20, 2023

SUMMARY
Pastor Cory taught the 3rd edition of “Journey Through the Old Testament” this past weekend, subtitled, “Sinai.” Week 1 was in the Garden of Eden, where we learned that God asserts His authority over chaotic darkness to create LIFE that will FLOURISH; Week 2 found us in Egypt, which was a place of RESCUE and REDEMPTION and this week we learned that Sinai is the place where God give people an:
– IDENTITY = we are God’s children, His representatives…His temples
– MISSION = to be Him in creation, to show what He’s like by how we live and treat others

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1.) When you hear “priests” what comes to your mind?”
2.) Where in the past have you found your identity? How about now?
3.) We are called to be “imitators” of God. What could/does that look like for you?
4.) What is your personal takeaway from this message? What will you do about it?

MOVING FORWARD
As we go about our daily lives, remind yourself of “who you are” (IDENTITY) and that God has a plan (MISSION) for your life. Remember…first we get RESCUED…then we settle into our IDENTITY..then we understand our PURPOSE and have a MISSION. It’s the order that God bings to our chaos. And may our anthem be, as we see/hear in the lyrics of “Faithfully” by Journey… “I’m forever Yours, faithfully!”

WORD!
Exodus 19:4-6
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you[a] will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation…’

1 Peter 2:9-12
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy…I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds (Matthew 5:16) and glorify God on the day he visits us.
