What is a Doxology?

  • The word comes from the Greek words Doxa meaning and logia meaning . A “doxology,” etymologically speaking, is “a word of glory.”
  • A doxology is a Christian prayer or hymn that praises and glorifies God.
  • New Testament doxologies proclaim God’s glory at key moments in some the most climactic of events in salvation history.

  • Psalms 145–150 are a collection of psalms that include a , or praise, that is more prominent than in other psalms.
  • At its core, the doxology of Psalm 150 is both a hymn of praise and a hymn of thanksgiving that expresses gratitude to God.
