SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE
CONVERSATION STARTER
Think about a time when you felt your worth was tied to an achievement. How did that experience shape your understanding of success or identity?
DEEPER
Read: Romans 9:30-10:4
Romans 9:32-33 speaks of a “stumbling stone”. What does this metaphor reveal about Jesus’ role in God’s plan? How might this “stone” challenge both the religious and the irreligious today?
In Romans 10:2, Paul acknowledges Israel’s zeal for God but criticizes it as not being according to knowledge. Reflect on areas where Christians today might display zeal without understanding. How can we ensure our passion aligns with truth?
If we are made right with God through faith, what role do good works play in the Christian life? How do passages like James 2:14-26 help balance faith and works?
What role does sharing our personal testimonies play in communicating the essence of righteousness by faith highlighted in our passage? Does this passage change the way you would go about sharing your testimony? How so?
Pastor Josh discussed delighting in God’s law, despite not being justified by it, and living in response to his grace. What is one practical step you can take this week to deepen your faith and reliance on God?
What stood out to you in this week’s sermon? What were your biggest takeaways?
