Joshua 1:2 (NLT)
2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.

NAVIGATING CHANGE

Exodus 17:8–9 (NLT)
8 While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them. 9 Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”

LESSONS FOR SEASONS OF CHANGE

Lesson #1: Faithfulness Through Change Creates Opportunity

Numbers 11:28a (NLT)
28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ assistant since his youth,

Exodus 32:1 (NLT)
1 When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come back down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. “Come on,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.”

Don’t allow future uncertainty to lead you back into past complacency.

Acts 2:46–47 (NLT)
46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Unity Brings Honor to God and Strength to His People

Lesson #2: Live Prepared So You Don’t Have To Get Prepared

Exodus 17:10 (NLT)
10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill.
Obedience brings the blessing of God’s power

Exodus 17:11 (NLT)
11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage.

God Cannot Be Blindsided

Psalm 147:5 (NLT)
5 How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Exodus 23:22 (NLT)
22 But if you are careful to obey him, following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose you.

Exodus 17:12 NLT
12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.

Joshua 1:2 (NLT)
2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.

Lesson #3: Remember God’s Promises During Seasons of Change

Numbers 14:10a (NLT)
10 But the whole community began to talk about stoning Joshua and Caleb.

Numbers 26:65 (NLT)
65 For the LORD had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Faith in God’s promises will lead you through your unknown

Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 41:13 (NLT)
13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the LORD your God.
And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.

Deuteronomy 28:1–2 (ESV)
1 “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
