Discussion Questions

1. It is possible for us to make mistakes as we’re learning to sense God’s directions for our personal lives. So if we think that may have made a mistake, what should we do?
   • What we should do is to continue to confess our mistake to the Lord, and then we continue to stay in faith trusting that our loving Heavenly Father will help us recover from our error. And we refuse to allow the enemy to get us to become fearful. Our Heavenly Father has promised that he will protect us and uphold us even if we slip and start to fall.

2. Read Psalm 119:1-4 which says “Blessed are the undefiled in the way,” and then it describes 4 things that we must do to stay in position to receive the Lords blessings. What are the 4 things that we are told to do?
   • First – we must walk in the law of the Lord (God’s Word) which means that we make a firm decision to obey what God’s Word says.
   • Second - we keep the Lord’s testimony which means we must act on the directions that the Lord gives us in our spirit and act on those instructions.
   • Third - we are careful to not allow any sin to enter into our lives.
   • Fourth – we are careful to adhere to this process all the time.

3. What specific actions are you planning to do to continually stay close to God by staying in His word?
   • Answers will vary.

4. Why is spending time in God’s Word so essential in developing our ability to have a hearing spirit?
   • Because God and His word are one (see Joh 1:1-2) and staying close to the Word is staying close to God Himself. Staying close to the Lord keeps us in a position where we can hear His directions when He gives us directions to bless and protect us in our personal lives.

5. Why is there a real danger that we might get discouraged and give up the effort to become sensitive enough to detect God’s direction to us personally?
   • Because being able to detect the Lords directions isn’t something that just happens automatically. We need to train our spirits and our minds to detect His instructions and this will take some effort.

6. What should we do if we begin to get discouraged while trying to develop our spiritual sensitivity to a higher level.
   • The best way to beat satan’s efforts to discourage us we need to determine that we’re NEVER going to give up and we will fight and defeat him no matter how long it takes. God’s Word says… Galatians 6:9 (NIV84) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. If we don’t give up, WE WILL WIN!!
   • The Bible refers to God’s counsel as being like a deep underground water supply which takes some work in order to access it. This is referring to the learning process that we need to go through. But because the Holy Spirit is with us He will help us in this process if we don’t give up and if we stay in faith. And God has also guaranteed that we will receive His wisdom when we ask Him for it in faith. (Read James 1:5-6)
