I Timothy 6:11-12
But FLEE from these things, you man of God, and PURSUE righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. 12 FIGHT the good fight of faith; TAKE HOLD of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
In any situation you have these four choices: You can flee, fight, pursue or hold tight.
1. “Flee”
Some battles we are not meant to fight.
I Corinthians 6:18 a
“Flee sexual immorality.”
I Corinthians 10:14 b
“Flee from idolatry.”
II Timothy 2:22 a
“Flee youthful lusts.”
Why does God want us to run from some battles instead of fighting them?
Because nothing is to be gained by fighting them, but there is a lot to lose if you are overcome.”
2. “Take hold”
Some things can only be received as a gift but then you must hold tight lest you let them slip away.
I Timothy 6:12 b
“Take hold of eternal life to which you were called.”
3. “Pursue”
Some things you can only gain if you pursue them.
I Timothy 6:11
But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
Romans 14:19
So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
4. “Fight”
There are some battles that must be fought.
I Samuel 18:17
“Be a valiant man and fight the Lord’s battles.”
I John 4:4
Greater is He who is in you than he that is in the world.
Jude 3
“Contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all time handed down to the saints.”
