Faith-Filled Courage: Same God
Message Study Questions
Message Summary
Today, we’re reflecting on the song Same God, which centers on God’s unchanging nature. The God of creation and eternity is the same today as He was in the past—and will be in the future. Because He never changes, we can trust in His faithfulness. Like David facing Goliath, we live in a culture that defies God. But David knew who God was—almighty, holy, and loving—and he knew who he was: God’s beloved child.
Remembering how God had empowered him before, David stood in courageous faith. We too can know God through His Word and the Holy Spirit. As we grow in faith, we learn who we are in Christ, discover our gifts, and understand God’s calling on our lives. Courage only matters when fear is present. Similarly, faith isn’t the absence of doubt—it’s choosing to trust when things are unclear. We exercise faith by calling on God, then standing firm in obedience, trusting His faithfulness.
Can you share a time when God delivered you from a fearful situation?
Why do you think it is so easy to forget what God has done for us in the past when we are faced with a new fear?
Consider This
You don’t need to be a “super Christian” to experience the miraculous. You need faith, courage and obedience, trusting in the unchanging God who still works powerfully today.
Read Malachi 3:6, 1 Samuel 15:29, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17 and describe what immutability means to you. Do you think the God of the Bible has changed, that He is different today?
Read 1 Peter 5:8 and 2 Corinthians 4:4 and explain how Satan, the god of this world, is behind the evil arrayed against believers today.
Read 1 Samuel 2:41-47. Was David’s courageous confidence in himself or in God? List the ways David expresses his confidence in God?
Criticism from those closest to us hurts, but it is a reality of following God with faith filled courage. What was David’s attitude toward Goliath? How was he criticized and how did he respond in 1 Samuel 17:26-28?
David remembered God’s faithfulness in 1 Samuel 17:34-37. How has remembering God’s past faithfulness provided courage for you to trust and obey?
Do you believe that God can do the literal? Can He change the circumstances in your life? Describe how.
What is the difference between talking courageously and being courageous? Is there a space in your life where you talk the talk but aren’t necessarily in the trenches doing the work? Can you share it?
What do you have to do to see the incredible?
How can we know the difference between bravery and presumption?
