Message Notes:

Rhythm = A regular pattern of musical sounds or repeated movements working in sync with each other to create something systematically cohesive.

Sabbath = Any recurring day or designated time of break from work related activities for prayer, worship, rest, and quality time.

Main Idea:

Picking up your cross and following Jesus means walking in a rhythm sabbath.

Designated times for rest, prayer, worship and quality time help you stay close to Him.

Deuteronomy 5:12-15
12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy (Set it aside as special, Prioritize it), as the Lord your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work…VS. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.” NIV

Exodus 16:4; 26-27
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. Vs. 26 Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.” 27 Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. NIV

Luke 5:16
(In response to the crowds of people Jesus was always around) But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray. CEV

Hebrews 4:11
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest NIV

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God! NLT

Exodus 34:21
“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.

TAKE HOME:

Applying the principles of Sabbath (rest and time with God) regularly to our life shows God we trust Him and we acknowledge we can’t do it on our own.

Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” NLT
