Day 314 - Not Destroyed
Emily Green
“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.” - 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 NLT
2 Corinthians 4 reminds us that we are like “fragile clay jars.” No matter how great we may think we are, the only thing great about us is the treasure we’re carrying – the light of Jesus! When we understand how fragile we are, we realize that the only power we have is from God, and it’s God’s power that gives us the strength to go through difficult circumstances. We may be pressed, perplexed, hunted down, and knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
No matter what you’re facing today, you can make it through by the power of God! You are not crushed. You are not driven to despair. You are never abandoned by God. You are not destroyed. Though our worldly souls and bodies may only be able to handle so much, our spirits are alive and well, strengthened by the Spirit of God! By His Spirit, we will be able to make it through!
Next Steps
- Think about it: How can I remind myself of God’s strength living inside of me?
- Action Step: Find which “list” in 2 Corinthians 4 you identify with right now (pressed, perplexed, hunted down, or knocked down). Read the entire verse, and speak it over yourself (I.e., “I may be pressed on every side by troubles, but I am not crushed!”)
