Icebreaker: What are you looking forward to about spring?
Read Luke 10:38-42
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
How do we, in our own lives, get “distracted by many things” and miss out on what God is calling us to focus on?
What does Jesus mean when he says, “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her”? How can we ensure we are choosing the “better part” in our daily lives, balancing our responsibilities with the need for spiritual nourishment?
What practical steps can we take this week to intentionally “sit at Jesus’ feet,” like Mary, and listen to Him, whether that’s through prayer, Scripture reading, or quiet reflection? How can Creekside help create spaces for people to focus on God’s presence amidst all the demands of life?
Martha was concerned about many tasks, which led her to feel overwhelmed. What distractions do you struggle with that prevent you from experiencing peace and joy in God’s presence?
