Come Holy Spirit - The Upper Room

May 26, 2024

Part 1 Recap:
1. Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and he was introduced that way in all 4 gospels.

  1. There are two

experiences with the Holy Spirit: Born of the Spirit (salvation), Baptized in the Spirit (filled, empowered). John 1:29, Matthew 3:11, John 20:22, Acts 2:4. Both of these gifts are for every believer.

  2. They were to go into all the world, but wait to be empowered.

  3. It’s an experience that referred to as being filled with Spirit, Baptized in the Holy Spirit, and it is called “the

    of the Father”.

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. —2 Corinthians 1:20

Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” —Luke 24:46-49

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” —Acts 1:8

And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying…14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. —Acts 1:13-14

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:1-4

  • Waiting vs. Suddenly. - You can’t force a suddenly moment to happen with the Holy Spirit, but you can make sure you are in living in an Upper Room of hunger and prayer.

Upper Room Believers

1. The upper room is a place of .

  • Sometimes there has to be an emptying before there is a filling.

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. —Acts 10:44-48

2. The upper room is a place of in prayer and supplication, “a seeking”. The dove lands on a people of hunger.

  • Kingdom principle - What God does in your life doesn’t stop with you. It flows through you.

  • Every believer is invited to have an Upper Room

, and every church is called to have an Upper Room .

3. Upper room cultures leads to upper room fruitfulness! We are in the church age, the age of the Holy Spirit!

  • This promise was initially given on the Day of Pentecost, but continues all through the book of Acts and the New Testament. This promise is still being poured out today!

The promise is for all people, and it is also personal:
- “

shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”.
- “You shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”.
