His name = Guilt.
Psalm 55:1 - 4
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.
2 Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;
3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.”
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
7 Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah.
But guilt doesn’t help you do better…
- it drains you physically
- it drains you emotoinally
It’s purpose is to destroy your IDENTITY in Christ!
Revelations 12:10
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
The purpose of guilt is to MAKE YOU ACCEPT SHAME.
Guilt = I did bad.
Shame = I AM BAD.
Satan accuses you NON-STOP because if you accept guilt - it will lead to SHAME in your identity.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONDEMNATION AND CONVICTION.
- Conviction makes you feel like you need to make a change.
- Condemnation is a low grade fever… everything looks good on the outside and on the inside you’re eating away
Guilt is a smooth criminal who will bring up EVERY PAST PROBLEM as a PERMANENT PROBLEM.
Romans 8:1
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Nine Greek words are used in the New Testament that were translated “now.” Some of these words simply provide a transition between thoughts.
The Greek word translated “now” - “NUN,” - RIGHT NOW. THIS MOMENT.
The Greek word that was translated “no” in this verse is “OUDEIS.” This is an emphatic term meaning “not even one…i.e. not even the smallest speck”.
“Condemnation” here is “KATAKRIMA,” and it means “an adverse sentence (the verdict)”
It’s not God who condemns us.
Hebrews 8:12
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Guilt is a weapon that the enemy uses against your BETTER LIFE!
To steal righteousness, peace and joy.
GUILT will keep us from church
1 John 3:20 NLT
“Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.”
Your own heart has been POISONED WITH GUILT and will convince you that you’re not worthy…
3 STORIES OF GUILT:
STORY OF PRODIGAL SON:
- HATEFUL WORDS.
- SINNING LIFESTYLE.
- POOR MANAGER OF MONEY.
- UNWORTHY.
It’s a good thing GOD is greater than my heart.
STORY OF DAVID AND BATHSHEBA:
- LUSTFUL
- MURDERER
- POOR LEADER
- BAD FATHER
- DESERVES PAIN.
*Psalm 51:1-2 *
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV
10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”
GODLY SORROW LEADS TO: REPENTANCE -
STORY OF JESUS RAISING LAZEROUS
JOHN 11:21
“21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.”
“IF YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE, HE COULD HAVE BEEN HEALED!” - Martha
Jesus was tempted to go into guilt when He did nothing wrong…
John 11:23 -
“23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.”
THE ENEMY WANTS TO USE GUILT TO CHANGE YOUR IDENTITY!
The Prodigal son had a DAMAGED CONSCIENCE
1 Timothy 4:2 - “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron”
David had an OVERSENSITIVE CONSCIENCE
He would believe he was forgiven… then 2 chapters later allow the enemy to convince him otherwise…
Jesus had a CLEAR CONSCIENCE
THE BALANCE:
Your conscience needs to be sensitive to react to sin…
and in tune to truth that it doesn’t accept accusation every time it comes.
~ HOW TO GET FREE FROM THE CRIMINAL OF GUILT ~
1) Develop selective hearing. -
- accusations of the enemy -
The devil accuses day and night. Night and day. And he’ll try to do it until something sticks and you will accept shame.
James 4:7 - “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
We resist the words of the devil and he must flee!
How do we resist GUILT AND SHAME? - do what Jesus did. “IT IS WRITTEN!”
..
Ephesians 5:6 -
“
accusations of friends -
As great as they are… accusations will come from those that you care about. And it can damage your heart.
Jesus’ BEST FRIENDS came and accused Him of being the cause of Lazerous’ death.
Jesus answered with the Word!accusations of self -
We read in 1 John that our own heart will condemn us… and we are to remember that God is better than our heart!
2) Develop quick reflexes - Be quick to repent, quick to move forward.
*- respond - *
Yes. God, I hear you. I sinned here. I agree. Respond to the conviction… DON’T ALLOW IT CONDEMNATION.
*- repent - *
Turn your heart back to God. Repentance is saying “God, change my heart towards this thing!”
*- rebound - *
YOU MAY MAKE A MISTAKE -
NEVER GIVE UP!
Job 17:9 - NLT
“The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.”
KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
WHO DOES?
The righteous…
But if you give into the lie that you are NOT righteous - you’ll give up each time something happens.
That’s why here’s the third thing to defeat the CRIMINAL OF GULT:
3) Secure Your Identity -
When the prodigal son listened to the father - HE REALIZED HE WASN’T A SERVANT. HE WAS A SON!
When David listened to God - HE REALIZED HE WAS FORGIVEN!
When Jesus did anything - HE SAID I FIRST HEARD MY FATHER TELL ME.
YOU ARE A RIGHTEOUS CHILD OF THE MOST HIGH GOD!
ABC’S OF IDENTITY -
ACCEPTANCE
it’s a gift.
Roman 8:17 -
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”
RIGHEOUSNESS = a gift!
the ACCUSER will tell you you’re not good enough -
JESUS says I’m good enough for both of us.
2 Cor. 5:21 SAYS “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
YOUR GIFT WAS THAT GOD MADE YOU RIGHTEOUS!
Boldness
Prov. 28:1 - “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
THERE IS BOLDNESS when you decide to walk away from guilt…
You need to be bold when you declare that you are righteous…
I don’t FEEL righteous - but I AM RIGHTEOUS!
We read James 4:7 - RESIS THE DEVIL AND HE WILL FLEE!
You resist Him by roaring louder!
Don’t assist him, resist him!
Cancelation
Cancel arguments with the Word.
2 Cor. 10:5 -
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,”
NOT - “God destroys”… WE DO!
The only way to heal from shame that GUILT tries to bring on you is to SHIFT focus from:
WHAT I AM NOT
to
WHO CHRIST IS.
I am not bad, because of Christ I am forgiven.
I am not sick, because of Christ I am healed.
I am not broken, because of Christ I am new.
I am not disgusting, because of Christ I am loved
Truth is, you don’t need faith about every single thing in life…
YOU JUST NEED TO HAVE FAITH THAT YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS BECAUSE OF WHAT CHRIST HAD DONE.
You are not your past.
You are not what you did.
You are not what someone did to you.
You are not who others think you are.
You are not who you think you are.
You are who Christ says you are
I’m Free—Forgiven—Changed—Redeemed—Healed—Blessed
Chosen—Complete—Accepted—I am a child of God
After we have developed selective hearing
after we have learned to have quick reflexes
and after we establish our identity…
WE ARE FREE TO:
LIVE A LIFE OF THANKFULNESS -
Jesus, instead of getting caught up with the guilt that was tried to put on Him - WALKED UP TO DEAD LAZEROUS began thanking the father and did miracles.
1 Thess 5:15 - 19
*16 Rejoice evermore.*
17 Pray without ceasing.
*18 In every thing (NOT because of everything) give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.*
19 Quench not the Spirit.
In EVERYTHING -
You DON’T THANK GOD FOR THINGS THAT HE IS NOT THE SOURCE OF…
- Confusion
- sickness
- lack
- destruction
YOUR THANKFULNESS RELEASES YOUR FAITH BECAUSE IT CAUSES YOU TO REMIND YOURSELF WHO AND WHOSE YOU ARE!
“well, this didn’t happen because of me…” - THANK YOU GOD THAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING THOUGH!
“Well, it’s my fault…” - GOOD NEWS IS JESUS IS REDEEMING MY TIME! THANK YOU FOR YOUR REDEMPTION!
