“One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.” —Acts 3:1-10 (NIV)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” —John 14:12 (NKJV)
“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.” —Mother Teresa
When you are unseen, it makes you feel like:
- You are unloved
- You have no worth
“Jewish men, listen to what I have to say! You knew Jesus of the town of Nazareth by the powerful works He did. God worked through Jesus while He was with you. You all know this. Jesus was handed over to sinful men. God knew this and planned for it to happen. You had sinful men take Him and nail Him to a cross. But God raised Him up. He allowed Him to be set free from the pain of death. Death could not hold its power over Him.” —Acts 2:22-24
“Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, ‘Look at us!’” —Acts 3:4
We have been seen by Jesus, and the spirit of God is building his church and unleashing us to see other people.
What stops us from seeing?
- Religious Routine
“Religion makes us proud of what we have done. The Gospel makes us proud of what Jesus has done.” —Timothy Keller
- Living a transactional lifestyle.
What happens when you truly see someone and act boldly in your faith?
- When you see someone you fully acknowledge someone with the Lord’s compassion (v, 4).
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” —John 14:12, NKJV
“So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’” —Acts 3:5-6
Being willing to break routine for God’s agenda (v, 1-3).
Be willing to serve Jesus with people in a way that brings God’s glory to the
gates of life (v, 6-8).
How can we be unleashed as the Church to see and respond like Jesus?
Live a life of disruption—Be the one that says God.
Find someone to take by the hand (Pick a person to pray for and show up for).
