11.12.2023 Enough to Remember
November 8, 2023

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

God’s way of doing things brings perspective to our daily lives - where past, present, and future collide.

Remembering what you have done with God, in the “now” moment, helps you not forget where you are going in God.

Deut 4:9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Joshua 4:4-7 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”

A place of remembrance is where what God has done in your life informs the rest of your life even for generations to come.

Exodus 15: 22-25 22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.

Questions for the Road:

Practice this week: rejoicing, prayer, and giving thanks to God.

Have you written down or how will you begin to capture what God has done in your life? How will you remember?

Where are the places of your life that have been imbued with meaning by what God has done? How can you set up symbolic remembrance rocks for you, your children and your children’s children?

We spend time acting on life but how much time do we spend speaking and reflecting on what God has done?
