“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.” —Psalm 139:13-18
Three Essential Truths About Life From God’s Word:
All People Are Made In God’s
• In Psalm 139, David says that God knits us together in our mother’s womb. That’s his way of saying that we are created by God.
• We are created in His Image. Not only were we created by God as the Psalmist declares. We were also created to mirror Him or to look like Him.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” —Genesis 1:27
• If we are created by Him and created in His image, we should not do anything to destroy that image.
• Our bodies are described as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
All People Are
To God
• Not only are people made in God’s image. Each person is precious to God and their life is designed with purpose.
• In verse 17, David, the psalmist, says God thoughts toward David are precious. The Hebrew word for precious here is “yoq-ru”, which means it’s weighty.
• David says he can’t count the number of thoughts that God has toward him. It’s a vast sum.
• Because we are made in God’s image, we are precious to him.
• Life starts when God says it does.
All People Should
For Life
• God made us in his image and anyone that seeks to destroy that image is going against God.
It’s our sacred duty to stand up and speak out against the atrocities done in our day. It’s biblical to cry out for God to bring justice to those that are oppressed and no one is in greater need of that than those that cannot cry out for justice on their own - the unborn.
• The world believes that the strongest survive. They say we have no reason to protect the unborn because they cannot speak for themselves.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” —Proverbs 31:8-9
• The Bible is clear, it is our responsibility to open our mouths to defend those who cannot speak.
