Day 1: Walking in the Light
Devotional
God is light, and in Him, there is no darkness. This truth sets the foundation for our relationship with Him. Walking in the light means living in God’s presence and truth. It means allowing His light to expose and cleanse the dark areas of our lives. When we walk in the light, we experience His guidance, peace, and joy. We are called to reflect His light in our daily lives, showing love and kindness to others. Remember, Jesus is our advocate, and He has already taken God’s wrath upon Himself, turning it into favor for us. We can live without fear of condemnation, knowing that we are forgiven and loved.
Bible Verse
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. - 1 John 1:5
Reflection Question
Are there areas in your life where you are still walking in darkness? How can you allow God’s light to shine in those areas?
Quote
God is light. And in him is no darkness. That’s just the way things are.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being the light in my life. Help me to walk in Your light daily and to reflect Your love and truth to others. Expose any darkness in my heart and cleanse me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Day 2: Jesus, Our Advocate
Devotional
Jesus stands as our advocate before God. He has taken upon Himself the punishment for our sins, turning God’s wrath into favor. This means we can approach God with confidence, knowing that we are forgiven and loved. We don’t have to live in fear of condemnation. Instead, we can live in the freedom and joy that comes from being in a right relationship with God. This truth should change everything about how we live our lives. It should fill us with gratitude and a desire to walk in the light, keeping God’s commandments and loving others as He has loved us.
Bible Verse
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. - 1 John 2:1
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus is your advocate change the way you approach God and live your daily life?
Quote
When you’ve had an experience like that, it literally changes everything.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be my advocate. Help me to live in the freedom and joy of Your forgiveness. Guide me to walk in Your light and to love others as You have loved me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Day 3: Keeping God’s Commandments
Devotional
Keeping God’s commandments is a reflection of our love for Him. It is not about following a set of rules but about living in a way that honors and pleases God. The greatest commandments are to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. When we live out these commandments, we are walking in the light. It is a daily choice to follow God’s ways and to let His love guide our actions. Even when we stumble, we can get back up and continue on the path of light, knowing that God’s grace is sufficient for us.
Bible Verse
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. - 1 John 2:3
Reflection Question
In what ways can you show your love for God and others through your actions today?
Quote
Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and do whatever you please.
Prayer
Lord, help me to keep Your commandments and to live in a way that honors You. Fill my heart with Your love so that I can love others as You have loved me. Thank You for Your grace and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Day 4: The New Commandment
Devotional
John introduces a ‘new commandment,’ which is fulfilled in Christ. This commandment is to love one another as Christ has loved us. It is a call to live in the light of Christ’s completed work. When we love others with the love of Christ, we are walking in the light. This love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. It is a love that seeks the best for others and reflects the heart of God. As we embrace this new commandment, we become a light to the world, showing others the love and grace of God.
Bible Verse
Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. - 1 John 2:8
Reflection Question
How can you show the love of Christ to someone in your life today?
Quote
He’s like, if you don’t love your brother, then you’re still stumbling. You haven’t turned the light on.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the new commandment to love others as Christ has loved us. Help me to live out this commandment daily and to be a light to those around me. Fill me with Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Day 5: Embracing God’s Favor
Devotional
John offers encouragement to different groups within the faith community, reminding them of their forgiveness and victory over evil. This is a reminder that we are all part of God’s family, and we all have a role to play in His kingdom. Embracing God’s favor means recognizing that we are forgiven, loved, and victorious in Christ. It means living with confidence and joy, knowing that we are part of something greater than ourselves. As we embrace God’s favor, we are called to encourage others in their faith journey, helping them to walk in the light and experience the fullness of God’s love.
Bible Verse
I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. - 1 John 2:12
Reflection Question
How can you encourage someone in their faith journey today?
Quote
He’s like, if you’re in Christ and you’ve really experienced him, there’s a result of that. You walk in the light.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your forgiveness and favor. Help me to live with confidence and joy, knowing that I am part of Your family. Use me to encourage others in their faith journey and to help them walk in the light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
