Rest in the Lord
The Sabbath was designed for our good
(Mark 2:23-24) One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. 24 But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”
(Mark 2:27) Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.
Religion without compassion misses the heart of God
(Mark 2:25-26) Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 26 He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.”
True rest is found in the Lord of the Sabbath
(Mark 2:28) So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
1. Create a rhythm of rest
2. Let go of performance-based faith
3. Trust the Lord of the Sabbath
(Hebrews 4:9, 11) So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God….So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
