INTRODUCE: What piece of pottery (or container) have you owned that has been the most important to you and why?
READ: Jeremiah 18:1-6, Romans 8:28-29, 2 Corinthians 4:6-7
Begin the time by praying together.
DISCUSS
1. Pressure is needed to be placed on the inside and outside in order to shape pottery. Share about an internal and external pressure that you have felt God use to shape you.
2. Pastor Robert shared about the calling God has on every life He has chosen. As you share about the purpose for which God has shaped you, how have you seen it confirmed by people or circumstances around you?
3. We can have hope when reading Jeremiah 18:4 in that, although the clay was marred or had deficiencies, the potter just reshaped it into something else that seemed best to Him. How do you see this verse personally giving you hope?
4. We cannot avoid change. While our tendency is to want to have our life remain the same (homeostasis), the reality is that we are living in an ever-changing world that requires us to adapt or change to the “new” that has come (allostasis). How do you cope with the new realities through which God is reshaping you?
5. In Romans 8:28-29 we read that being shaped into Christ’s image is the goal. What does that practically look like in your life? How well do you yield to the Potter’s hands?
6. The value of the vessel is determined by what it holds. As jars of clay, the treasure we hold is the gospel. How do you pour out this good news for others to drink, feast, and receive the Living Water from your life?
PRAY: Thank you, for choosing me to be Your vessel to hold Your precious treasure, the knowledge of Your Son. Please help me to be compliant so that You can shape me, fill me, and use me to pour out Your treasure in this world. Amen
