Who’s Carrying You?: Tear Off the Roof

Message Notes

Tear Off the Roof

Just get me to Jesus
I don’t care how
I don’t have to wait to get the healing
I gotta faith without a ceiling
So tear off the roof
‘Cause the King’s in the house

There’s power in the presence
Power in the blood
Power in the name of Jesus
And He has more in the hem of His garment
Then the camp of the enemy

I didn’t come here to hide in the crowd
I’m pressing through to you
I don’t care how
Reaching out my hand to get the healing

Mark 2

Verse 1
“A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.”

Verse 2
“They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.”

Verses 3-5
“Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.””

He came for a physical healing, and Jesus gave him a spiritual healing.

Who are your mat carriers?

1 Corinthians 15:33
“Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Verses 6-7
“Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?””

Who does he think he is?

Verse 8
“Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?”

Jesus spoke directly to them.

Jesus was meek not weak.

Verses 9-12
“Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!””

The emphasis of this story is not the physical healing.

Isaiah 53:5-6
“But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.”
