SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE
CONVERSATION STARTER
Bible reading accountability: What have you been reading in God’s Word this week? What has God been teaching you?
DEEPER
Read Romans 11:1-10
In Romans 11:1-2, Paul states that God has not rejected his people. Why does Paul use himself as an example of this truth? What does this reveal about the personal nature of God’s plans?
What is the significance of the “remnant” mentioned in verse 4-5? How does the story of Elijah (1 Kings 19:10-18) help us understand God’s preservation of his people?
Verse 6 highlights grace over works. What does Paul mean when he says, “Otherwise grace would no longer be grace”? How does this fit within the larger argument of Romans?
In verses 8-10, Paul quotes the Old Testament to describe those who are hardened. How do these passages (Isaiah 29:10; Deuteronomy 29:4; Psalm 69:22-23) shed light on the theme of “hardening”?
How is Romans 11:1-10 meant to give us hope and encouragement in our lives?
What stood out to you in this week’s sermon? What were your biggest takeaways?
