As a general rule, we don’t do a good job at taking care of our soul, and we are tired of our soul being tired. One thing we can do to bless our soul is to do less.

What might “doing less” mean to you?

Be still, and know that I am God! —Psalm 46:10 (NLT)

This verse makes a great song, but it is a hard teaching for us to follow. Because it is hard for us to “be still.”

Why is it so hard to be still?

Dallas Willard once said, “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”

What does this quote mean to you?

Slow down the exhausting pace of your life.
The only solution for an unsustainable pace of life is to change to a sustainable pace.

Corrie Ten Boom once said… “If the devil cannot make you sin, he will make you busy.”

How have you seen this quote to be true?

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. —Matthew 6:31–33 (NLT)

What do you see in this passage?

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. 6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. —Psalm 62:5–8 (NIV)

What do you see in this passage?

N.T. Wright said “It is only when we slow down our lives that we can catch up to God.”

What do you think of this quote?

Turn down the noise that is wearing out your soul.
The gospels reveal that spending intentional time in silence and solitude was very important to Jesus.

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. —Luke 5:16 (NIV)

Why do you think Jesus went to quite places?

What are some ways that you can retreat to quite places?

Be still, and know that I am God! —Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
