Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Luke 22:39-46
And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. Luke 4:12-13

CONNECTION GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
- Jesus instructed his followers to “Pray that you will not fall into temptation” in Luke 22:39-46. How can praying help with our own struggles with temptation today?
- In Luke 22:41-42, Jesus prays, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” What do you think this prayer reveals about who Jesus is and his relationship with God the Father?
- Think about Mark 14:37-38, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. How does this apply to our own battles against temptation and spiritual struggles?
- Romans 12:9 encourages us to “Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” How can we practically apply this principle in our daily lives and in the face of temptation?
- What do you think it means to “fight shoulder to shoulder” as mentioned in Zephaniah 3:9? How can we support and encourage each other in our spiritual battles?
- How does the idea of being “devoted to one another in love” (Romans 12:10) relate to the idea of fighting alongside each other in our spiritual journey?
- Discuss the importance of Jesus going to pray alone in Luke 22:39-42. Why is prayer so important in facing trials and temptations?
- How does the instruction to “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying” (Romans 12:12) give us encouragement in times of struggle and temptation?
- In what ways can we follow Jesus’ example of surrendering to God’s will, even through trials and suffering, as seen in Luke 22:41-42? How does this attitude change the way we respond to temptation and troubles?
- How can our group pray for you this week?
