Sermon Title: Living by the Spirit

Atonement: HE WORKED FOR US!
Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. (John 3: 5-6)

Awareness: HE WORKS AHEAD OF US
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. (John 16:13)

Assurance: HE WORKS WITH US
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. (Ephesians 1:13)

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:16)

Assignments: HE WORKS THROUGH US
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. (1 Corinthians 12:4)

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23)

I. Affection That Reflects Christ (Love, Kindness, Goodness)
If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:2)

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”
(Psalm 23:6)

II. Attitude That Resembles Christ (Joy, Peace, Gentleness)
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow. (John 15:11)

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

III. Actions That Represent Christ (Patience, Faithfulness, Self-Control)
Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:2)

A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. (Proverbs 25:28)

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27)
