01.21.24 Sermon Notes: — Lord, Teach Us to Pray
Part of RESET Prayer
January 17, 2024
Jesus was a man of PRAYER and he demonstrated the importance of PRAYER by his lifestyle:
• MARK 1:35 Up early to pray.
• LUKE 5:15-16 After a busy day, he retreated to pray.
• LUKE 6:12 Before selecting his disciples, Jesus prayed all night.
Why was Jesus a man of PRAYER?
• JOHN 5:19 To determine his daily actions.
What exactly is PRAYER? It includes:
• Adoration
• Confession
• Thanksgiving & Praise
• Supplications…Talking & Listening
“Remember, no man has time to pray, he has to take time from other things that are valuable in order to understand how necessary time for prayer is.” —Oswald Chambers
“Before prayer changes others, it first changes us.” —Billy Graham
“Prayer does not give you spiritual power. Prayer aligns your life with God so that He chooses to demonstrate His power through you. Prayer is designed to adjust you to God’s will, not to adjust God to our will.” —Henry Blackaby
LUKE 11:1-4
Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.”
When you pray, remember the “BASIC ELEMENTS” Jesus taught His disciples about PRAYER:
• The HOLINESS of God.
• The SOVEREIGNTY of God
• The PROVISION of God
• The FORGIVENESS of God
• The PROTECTION of God
