After Easter: Mother’s Love
Thom Redmond
Luke 1:35-38
35The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. 36What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37For the word of God will never fail.” 38Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
Mary faced incredible odds to accomplish God’s plan.

John 2:1-5
1The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. 3The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” 4“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” 5But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Pay attention to the statement: “Do whatever he tells you.” Remember, Jesus hadn’t yet performed a miracle, but Mary showed consistent faith in her son.
I am sure she hadn’t forgotten the visit from the wise men.
Now let’s go forward to the cross
John 19:25-27
25Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas),
and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” 27And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

Reminder: The Holy Spirit helped Mary, and he will help you.
Proverbs 31:30-31 (NLT)
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.”
Mary’s choices to both fear and follow God’s lead are about to pay off.
Acts 1:13-14
13When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James). 14They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.
What about you?
Bonus encouragement 2 Timothy 1:5-6
*5I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. 5This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.*
