Discussion Questions
Pray together and ask God to help you be honest in sharing your life with one another during your group. Then read out loud Genesis 39.
Talk about a time in your life when you asked yourself, “God, what are you doing?” What were you experiencing and what did you learn?
How was the Lord preparing Joseph for ministry in his testing and his imprisonment? What do we learn about resisting temptation from Joseph?
The Bible continually reminds us that “the Lord was with Joseph” (39:2, 3, 21, 23). Verse 21 even adds “…and showed him steadfast love…” Why do you think the text stresses this? Why is understanding this critical for us when we face difficulties, suffering, or do not understand what God is doing?
How has the Lord shown you his presence and steadfast love during your pain and suffering?
Chapters 40-41 tell the story of Joseph’s imprisonment, release, and his rise to power. Rather than promoting himself, Joseph humbly points others to God. How can your pain become a platform to point people to Christ?
