Walking with God in the Garden
Genesis 2:25 – Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 2:2 – By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Notice the word “rested.” The Hebrew word is shabbat, which literally means to stop, cease, or rest.
Walking with God, we take a
to rest, reflect, and worship.
Genesis 2:3 – Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Take one day in seven and stop, and honor the God who created you, blessed you, and saved you.
*“Attending church is a countercultural experience: we need to counteract the influence of the popular culture in our lives. When we go to church, we’re participating in a global weekly network of a billion people who are doing the same thing at the same time. We’re participating in an ancient practice that goes back to the origins of the church and to the beginning of the creation. And we’re involved in a habit the Bible says is increasingly vital as time draws to a close. Regular church attendance honors the rhythm of life that God established, the worship that Scripture ordains, the spiritual family that Christ has formed, and the mission for which we’re placed on this planet.” * - Robert Morgan
Genesis 2:5-6 – Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
Genesis 2:8 – Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Walking with God, we gladly acknowledge Him as the
, Author, Creator, and Lord of our lives.
Psalm 139:14-15 – I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Walking with God, we spend daily time in
.
Genesis 2:8 – Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
“I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses; and the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.” (Austin Miles)
And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.
Hebrews 4:14; 16 – Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess…Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Walking with God, we steward the
entrusted to us.
Genesis 2:15 – The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Genesis 2:16 – And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Walking with God, we
His commands.
*Obedience always leads to a closer walk with God. *
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
(John A Sammis)
