This is My Son–Absalom (2 Samuel 18:24-33)

  1. David, the father of Absalom, wished that he could have in his son’s place.
  2. Absalom the hearts of the men of Israel by speaking of David in the city gates while promoting himself.
  3. Like Absalom, you rebel daily against your heavenly Father as you put yourself on the of your heart and attempt to your own life.
  4. Yet out of His great love, God sent Jesus, the true Son of David, to be by hanging from a tree for you in order to make you an heir of His heavenly kingdom.

Did you catch the irony? Absalom, out of hate, wants to take his father’s place on the throne. David, out of love, wishes he could take his son’s place… at the end of those three javelins. Are you surprised that David feels this way, after everything? Why or why not?

Jesus is the ultimate promised Son of David! He is the One who would take our place and give life in the place of death. How did digging deep into Absalom’s story help you better understand Jesus’ mind-boggling sacrifice for you? How can this deeper understanding help to change your life day by day?
