God is Good
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. —Psalm 86:5
• Lord = Adonai (more of a hint of the Lord’s role; sovereign master.)
• “Good” speaks of character, nature, make-up, His Being.
• Good (dictionary definiton) = to be desired, to be approved of, that which is morally right, to benefit or advantage someone, well.
O LORD, YOU ARE SO GOOD
- God does good because God is good. The Master God is a good God.
Let my soul be at rest again, for the LORD has been good to me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth! —Psalm 116:7-9
“Saved me from death”
- Death is alive in our world because of sin.
- If you have ever sinned (one time) your reward is death. (eternal separation from Adonai)
- Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 20:6; 14-15
Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin….8:1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. —Romans 7:24-25, 8:1-2
GOD IS GOOD–HE HAS SAVED ME FROM DEATH!
“My eyes from tears.”
I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” —Revelation 21:3-5
“My feet from stumbling”
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” —John 8:12
THIS IS WHY THE PSALMIST CRIES OUT: “O LORD, YOU ARE GOOD!”
“Ready to Forgive”
- Psalm 103:3 He forgives all my sins…
- 1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
- If you are willing, He is ready. If you have the courage, He is ready!
“Full of unfailing love to those who ask for help” (plenteous in mercy)
But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. his is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. —1 John 4:8-10
- God is love! Showed His love by sending Jesus to rescue you, fill you with His Spirit, lead you in a way where no matter who you are you can have value, meaning, purpose in life.

GOD IS GOOD. No matter how bad you think your life is, or how awful people have been to you or how lost you are in sin and pain; GOD IS GOOD AND READY TO FORGIVE AND NEVER OUT OF UNFAILING LOVE!
