Coming Home – House Party

No matter where you are, you have a Father who relentlessly loves you and calls you His own.

Main Point

God is throwing a party and He wants everyone to be a part of it!

Discuss

When is an appropriate time to start decorating for Christmas?

What is something that you have lost and when you found it were relieved/excited?

Study

Luke 15:22-32
What happened when the older son found out about the party? Why was he angry? Why was he unable to rejoice in the brother’s return?

Can you identify at all with the older son? How so? Have you ever felt like you have been overlooked or passed over for praise and recognition? How do we get into the position where we think that we deserve to be praised?

How does the father respond to the older brother? What keeps you from being able to rejoice at the return of the younger son?

Who do you most identify with the older or the younger brother? Why? Compare the attitude of the older and younger son. Compare the response of the father to each son. What does this teach us about God and how he responds to us?

What’s Next

“If you don’t see God right, you’ll see people wrong.” What do you think this means? Why is it important that we see people in the correct way?

Chad said, “Just because you stay near the Father’s house doesn’t mean you share His heart.” What do you think that means?

“God reaches out to us even in our worst moments.” How have you experienced this in your life?

What does it mean to have the heart of the Father? What does that look like?

Prayer

God, thank you for inviting us to be a part of your party! Help me to love people just like you love people!

But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.–Luke 15:32
