Let’s do the opposite
Jesus, what does it mean to carry our cross?

Jesus asks what they are discussing
- They don’t answer for they are embarrassed
- if you want to be first, be last
- Jesus brings a kid before them, “whoever receives this kid, receives me and the one who sent me

Culturally, those things go together
- We live in a world that celebrates youth
- Opposite back then

- Pride, Me first

- Serve, Least of these

- casting out in Jesus name but not of them

Divorce
- instantly, we as humans want to know the rule and how close we can get to it
- hard topic…we may have been through one in your family

- marriage - one of two callings
- mutual self-giving love that points to the mystery of Christ and His church

  • Divorce avoided, only acceptable - adultery, non-Christian
  • abuse (violation of vows, crime, a matter of church discipline)

- flippant
- less power, more they suffered

- Reworking our understanding of marriage

- Self-giving love

Children coming to Jesus
- Disciples got in the way
- Jesus - let the come!
- In fact, come as them!
