Growing In Grace – Let God (2 Peter 3:8-9)

Blessed is the man who knows there is only one God, and stops applying for the position. —Max Lucado

We are unqualified to be on equal terms as God.
With this thought in mind, Peter gave his audience some encouragement…

8But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. —2 Peter 3:8-9

We are

time.

God is

of time.

4For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night. —Psalm 90:4

This is not an exact mathematical equivalency, but an expression to show the difference in the finite and infinite.
The Psalmist continued this thought…

10The days of our lives are 70 years; and if by reason of strength they are 80 years yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. —Psalm 90:10

Not everyone is guaranteed 70 years. We are guaranteed a beginning and an end. This thought SHRINKS us. God doesn’t have this though.

1Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. —Psalm 90:1-2

God’s eternity seperates Him from us.

We have

say.

God has

the say.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness… —Apostle Peter

We wait for

.

God waits for

.

…but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. —Apostle Peter

Blessed is the man who knows there is only one God, and stops applying for the position. —Max Lucado

We are blessed when we let God be be over all things.
