Love does not seek its own. But what does this mean exactly?

Love does not demand its own way (Living Bible)
Love does not seek it’s own (NASB)
Love is not self seeking (NIV)
Love does not insist on its own way (ESV)
Love is not selfish (HCSB)
Love does not insist on its own rights or way. (Amplified Bible)

So what this boils down to is motivation. Why do we do the things we do?

This brought up a unquie question in my own mind and heart. If motivation is the answer, then what was Jesus’ motivation for His coming, living, dying, being buried, and then rising on the 3rd day?

  1. He loves me. John 3:16.
  2. He provided an opportunity for salvation. Luke 19:10
  3. He was obedient. (John 4:34; 6:38; 17:4; 19:30) This is the key motivation because He was the the only hope we have, and He does love us.

This is how Jesus loves us. But how much do we love Jesus?

2 Chronicles 25:1-2 Amaziah did what was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with his whole heart.

Do you love Jesus with Your whole heart? Or do you only half-heartly love Him?
