Series: Romans – Grasping The Gospel
Sermon Title: Part 57 – Leaving a Legacy
Scripture: Romans 16:1-16
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil
Questions:
Do you believe that the Lord is the One who calls people to serve Him in various roles in His church? If so, do you believe that the Lord reserves the right to change the those roles—or add or remove roles—as He so chooses? Do you know your role?
Read Romans 16:1-5. How would you describe these women and men roles? What are they known for?
Read Romans 16:10, where Apelles who is described as one who is “approved” in Christ. The word “approved” describes one who has been tested, and has passed the test as one approved. What kind of testing do we encounter as we try to serve the Lord in His church?
Read Romans 16:6 and 12, where Paul sends greetings to four women—Mary, Tryphena, Tryphosa, and Persis, who worked hard for the Lord, implying that they were working hard despite difficult circumstances. Thinking of the people in this church who you have seen working hard, how can you be an encouragement to them? How do they inspire you?
What does a Biblical legacy mean? Where do we see examples of this in Romans 16 and also throughout the Scriptures?
What type of legacy do you want to leave? How are you “investing” today in order to make that happen in the future? (if you have children, what are you doing to equip and invest in their lives to know Christ and grow them spiritually?)
