PRECIOUS PROMISES

Text: 2 Peter 1:1-4

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

  • v. 4 – We have been given precious promises that are exceedingly great.
  • Peter doesn’t disclose any of the precious promises that God has made to us. He references them as something his audience had an understanding of.
  • There are around 2500 promises from God in God’s Word. Many are generic. Many are specific. But in principle they can apply to us.

1. The Promise Of God’s Love (Rom. 8:38-39; Jer. 31:3; Rom. 5:8)

  • In the midst of the difficulties it is important to know that nothing can us from God’s love. Nothing can cause us to no longer be loved by God.
  • You never have to question God’s love. (Does God love me? If God loved me, then…) See your difficulty, your trial, your circumstances against the backdrop of the cross, Calvary. God proved His love for me. He gave His son.

2. The Promise Of God’s Presence (Mt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5)

3. The Promise Of God’s (Mt. 6:25-33; Phil. 4:19)

4. The Promise Of God’s Grace (2 Cor. 12:9)

  • We don’t necessarily need the difficulties and hardships of life ; we need more to lift us up over the difficulties.
  • God is gracious and will supply all the grace we need, if we will simply depend upon Him.

5. The Promise Of God’s (John 14:1-3; Rev. 21:4)

Bottom line: God’s precious belong to God’s precious .
