Series: Romans – Grasping The Gospel
Sermon Title: Part 5 – The Results of Rejecting God
Scripture: Romans 1:24-2:1
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil

Questions:

  1. Share an example of how you witnessed or experienced what would be described as “natural consequences” for a certain risky act or a certain risky behavior.

  2. Read through Romans 1:24-2:1, and notice that the phrase “God gave them up” is used three different times. What does Paul mean when he writes that “God gave them up?”

  3. God gave people up to a number of things identified in verses 24, 26, and 28: to impurity; to dishonor their bodies among themselves; to dishonorable passions; to a debased mind; and to do what ought not to be done. Why would God give people up to those things and how does that relate to His wrath?

  4. In verse 28, it says that God gave the people over to “a debased mind.” How would you describe “a debased mind?”

  5. In verse 32, Paul says that the people who practice such things as the things described in this passage “deserve to die.” What does that say to you as far as how seriously God takes our sin?

  6. In what ways does Romans 2:1 cause you to look at yourself and your own thoughts, attitudes, words, and actions? Why are we often so blind to our own issues but can see other’s so clearly?

  7. When you consider that Jesus took on the wrath of God upon Himself on the cross by becoming sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21), how does that affect your worship of Him?
