THIS WEEKEND’S LESSON

Week 2 - Revenge
Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him.
Mark 6:19
24She went out and asked her mother, “What should I ask for?” Her mother told her, “Ask for the head of John the Baptist!” 25So the girl hurried back to the king and told him, “I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!”
Mark 6:24-25
Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.”
Luke 17:1
Each heart knows its own bitterness
Proverbs 14:10
21Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22“No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”
Matthew 18:21-22
For this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
Matthew 26:28
10He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
Psalm 103:10-11
Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
1 Corinthians 13:12
31Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:31-32
17Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. 19Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. 20Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” 21Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Romans 12:17-21
But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.
Mark 11:25
