Big idea: Self-control empowers disciples of Jesus to resist temptation and live a life of integrity.

Text: Galatians 5:16-17; 1 Corinthians 10:13-14; Galatians 5:1; Matthew 4:1-11

DEFINITIONS:
Self-control
= the virtue of a person who masters their desires and passions, especially their sensual appetites and the expression of them in one’s behavior

Freedom = the liberty to do the right thing, the liberty to make the right choice, to omit that which adds no value to our relationship with Jesus

Stand firm = to keep standing, to maintain allegiance to your freedom

Do not submit = to not be held, or entangled, or ensnared again to the bondage that comes from slavery to the flesh; to not give away authority over our desires, passions, or appetites

Resisting temptation

because Jesus has set you free.
2. Do not to a yoke of slavery to your flesh.

Maintaining self-control
1. Jesus models the ability to

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for my freedom in Jesus. I ask that You empower me to resist temptation and live a life of integrity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
