A few weeks ago Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger was convicted of murdering Botham Jean after mistakenly entering his apartment thinking it was her own. At the sentencing, Botham’s brother publicly forgave Amber and then shocked the courtroom when he gave her a hug. The judge also hugged Amber and gave her personal Bible to her, encouraging her to live out John 3:16. Only Jesus can bring good out of such a tragedy!
Within a 15 mile radius of our church, over 80,000 precious people live, an area we call Heartland. Jesus commands us,
“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:14-16
At Heartland, We Reflect God’s Light By Inviting People to…
to Jesus
“Come and see” (Jesus’ invitation in John 1:39). Jesus offered an opportunity to a few fishermen to observe and investigate his identity. The Heartland church family offers this same opportunity through our Discovery Class, special events, worship services, and various outreaches. We do this because Jesus is the only hope for mankind.
“What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” —Mark 8:36-37
with Joy
Six months later, after the men hung out with Jesus and returned home, Jesus came a second time to them.
“Come and follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” —Mark 1:17
He called them to a commitment as a disciple (or learner). Although there would be sacrifices (Matthew 11:37), the payoff would come thru a full and abundant life! (John 10:10)
“Blessed (happy) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied.” —Matthew 5:6
Heartland offers numerous smaller, face-to-face groups to help you follow Jesus (Men’s/Women’s Bible Studies, book club, prayer groups, Celebrate Recovery, home Bible studies, etc.).
“Take hold of the life that is truly life.” —I Timothy 6:19
with Passion
A year later “[Jesus] appointed twelve – designating them apostles – that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.” —Mark 3:14
An apostle is sent forth to serve. Jesus trained a small group, showing them how to teach, serve, and train others. We do this thru the Center for Biblical Studies, and many other training, mentoring, and missions opportunities.
In the last two decades, 26 pastors and missionaries have been sent forth from Heartland and we are praying for many more! Training, mentoring, and discipling the next generation will be a major focus of our ministry over the next year. Will you help us fulfill our mission?
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are living according to the truth.” —III John 4
Our Response (any commitment you make is between you and God)
Be a Lawful Giver (10%)
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” —Malachi 3:10
Because I love the Lord, and in response to His Word, for at least the next 90 days, I will give 10% of my income to the church.
Be a Liberal Giver (over 10%)
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” —Jesus, Luke 6:38
Because I love the Lord, and in response to His Word, for at least the next 90 days, I will give over 10% of my income to the church.
