The Power of Words: Week 5 • You Be The Judge • March 9, 2025
Words account for just __7%
Matthew 7:1-6 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
Did Jesus say we aren’t to judge at all?
Who to judge?
Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits.
What Jesus is saying is…we shouldn’t be judgmental.
7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
What goes around comes around
Judging someone and being judgmental are 2 different things. Judging someone is about
Romans 2:1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.
And what are those things?
Romans 2:29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Our natural bend is to see the faults in others.
Deal with your own log.
The only way to hide a big log is to hide or isolate.
The enemy would love to isolate you from brothers and sisters who can speak life into you.
James 5:16 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working
You can’t deal with
But how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite,
Don’t act.
How do I communicate effectively?
1 Judge ourselves first
2 Be patient
1Thessalonians 5:4 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle,[c] encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.
3 Listen
Be more
4 Love
The world is watching…
1 Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
6 “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
March 2025 Memory Verse
As the Father has loved me,
so have I loved you.
Abide in my love.
If you keep my commandments,
you will abide in my love,
just as I have kept my
Father’s commandments
and abide in his love.
John 15:9-10
