Joni Eareckson Tada “Sometimes God allows what he hates to accomplish what he loves.”
How can suffering be good?
Suffering equips us to help people who are suffering
- 2 Corinthians 1:2-4
Suffering (when properly understood) matures us.
- James 1:2-4, Romans 5:3-5, 1 Peter 1:6-9
Suffering refocuses us and corrects us
2. The Interrogations (John 9:8-34)
3. True Blindness (John 9:35-41)
REFLECT
- What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you?
- How did Jesus’ healing of the blind man set up the conversation about spiritual blindness? What is spiritual blindness? How were the religious leaders spiritually blind?
- Read John 9:1-12. What assumptions are the disciples making about the man born blind? How did Jesus correct their understanding? How does Jesus’ answer challenge our understanding of physical infirmity and healing?
- Read John 9:13-34. Why were the Pharisees upset about Jesus healing the blind man? What questions did they ask the healed man?
- Describe the second encounter between the healed man and the Pharisees. What did this dialog reveal about the healed man’s understanding of Jesus? What did the dialog reveal about the Pharisees understanding of God? What was the result of the conversation?
- Read John 9:35-42. In your own words, describe what happened in these verses? What did Jesus mean when He said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind”? How does this help us to understand the nature of spiritual blindness?
ACT
- What is one specific thing you can do this week to put into practice what you learned in this message?
