Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. —Galatians 5:26 (ESV)
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. —Romans 12:10 (ESV)
This
I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. —1 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT)
We need to
I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. —John 17:20-21 (ESV)
The Church needs to not
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. —Romans 14:13 (NIV)
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. —1 Peter 2:12 (NIV)
Are you building more unity or division?
Notes:
Discussion Questions:
1 – Why is there so much division between people today?
2 – What is the climate generally like between Christians and non-Christians?
3 – Read 1 Peter 2:12. What does it look like for Christians to do this? How successful do you think we are being?
4 – Read John 17:20-23. Why is there often too much division within the universal Church?
5 – Pray for unity among our church and the whole of the Body of Christ. Pray that this will lead to a productive witness to an unbelieving world.
